Medical school clerkships | What to expect on your OBGYN rotation

In this video, we’re talking all about what to expect on your OBGYN rotation, including things like special skills that you will learn (speculum exam, internal exam, pregnancy related exam maneuvers like Leopold’s maneuvers, ultrasound, literally delivering actual babies, etc.) as well as some things to thinking about when you are taking an OB/GYN history.

Some other things to remember:

Gyn history should include when menses start, if they have been regular, any complications, any surgeries, as well as birth control history.
OB hx will be in the format of GxPxxxx, and you’ll learn what that means. Make sure you ask the appropriate questions to fill out the G’s and P’s.
Presenting an OBGYN patient usually (at least at my institution) starts with “This is an xx year old G3P3003 presenting for (cc)," you’ll pick up special things to include in your presentations for different rotations, but this is a good place to start on OBGYN.
