Hello! I recently pass the CompTIA ITF+ exam and will go over what I did to pass and what I recommend. The first course I took was on UDEMY. It was from TOTAL called “TOTAL: CompTIA IT Fundamentals ITF+ (FCO-U61).” I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS COURSE. It honestly was a waste of money and brings you no further in your understanding of the ITF+ concepts.

I watched a course by John Tabor.
   • Chapter 1 - IT Fundamentals+ (FC0-U61) How...  

This course really helped me understand the ITF+ topics. The ITF+ exam is not something you can memorize a bunch of topics for and take. You need to understand each question. Mr. Tabor does a great job. I would watch this free course twice.

The second course I watched, is on ITPro TV. They do a great job on each video and take the time to make sure you understand the topic. Videos are a lot longer but they do a lot of hands-on explanations. Great for visual learners.

The 3rd course I watched was also on youtube. It was from a guy named Tech Gee. His videos were the icing on the cake. He has a free ITF+ course. I will list the playlist below.

After watching these courses I took 3 days to do practice tests. I used test prep training. I think this really helped because it teaches you to think through each question and come up with the correct answer. I did all tests in practice mode and you are able to test on topics you are not very good at. I would test on topics you are struggling on then mix it up with a full exam. Read each question and think through each question, research online the questions you struggle and look up any terms you don’t recognize. Don’t just mindlessly go through it. Actively think, if your brain is fried. Take a short break and come back to it.

The CompTIA Exam

The exam process was this:

Go on the Comptia Store website and purchase the Exam.

Schedule an in-person or online proctored exam. (I did the online)

Run a system test on your computer.

On the exam day, clear your testing area. I had to put all my desk items outside my room. they have you take 4 pictures of your test area. Submit your Drivers License.

When taking the test do not move your head outside the camera, do not take a drink of water, and do not look anywhere in the room, you must only look at your screen the entire time, or else they will talk to you through video or chat and possibly disqualify you.

After you pass it makes you take a survey. Then you will get your exam results. The passing score was 650 and I got a 663. I should have focused more on practice tests to get a better score in my opinion.

Overall I had a good experience. I studied 5–7 hours a day. I took one day off each week to give my mind some rest. It seemed to solidify the topics in my mind.

Follow what I did to study and I think you’ll be fine and pass your test. Make sure to download the exam objectives and focus on topics in the practice tests that you have a hard time understanding. I had a hard time with programming and databases. So I focused heavily on those topics.
