The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines continues to rise. As of Tuesday (November 4, 2025) evening, the number of casualties resulting from the typhoon, which triggered heavy rain and massive flooding in the central region of the country, has reached 46 people.
Among the victims were six military personnel who died after their helicopter crashed while conducting a humanitarian mission.
The military's Huey helicopter crashed in Agusan del Sur Province, Mindanao Island, while carrying out disaster relief operations amidst the storm. The Philippine military stated that the bodies of the six crew members have been recovered, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
The incident occurred near noon, about 270 kilometers from Cebu Island, the area hardest hit by the typhoon. Local authorities reported that at least 39 people died from drowning or being struck by debris, while one other victim was reported dead on the neighboring island of Bohol.
Although Typhoon Kalmaegi, locally named Tino, gradually weakened after making landfall early Tuesday, the storm still lashed several areas with wind speeds reaching 120 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 165 kilometers per hour. The typhoon swept across the Visayas region and was moving toward northern Palawan and the South China Sea.
Tens of thousands of residents in the Visayas region, including parts of southern Luzon and northern Mindanao, were evacuated before the typhoon arrived. The storm submerged homes and caused widespread flooding in various areas.
