On my first day in Xi’an, I headed to the Ancient City Walls. Starting at the South Gate, I rented a bike and rode along the 14 kilometre length of the walls. It was a unique way to see the city and get a sense of its history, passing gates, towers, and old watchtowers along the way.
Riding along walls that have been standing for over 650 years was fascinating, especially seeing the contrast between the ancient fortifications and the modern city surrounding them. Along the route, I got great views of the streets, parks, and the people going about their day.
