Derek Bentley was just 19 years old when he was sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t physically commit. His case — one of the most infamous miscarriages of justice in British legal history — helped shape public opposition to the death penalty.
I visit the final resting place of Derek Bentley who was hanged in whats been called one of the biggest miscarriages of justice. I also visit the location of his home where he lived with his family at the time of his execution as well as visiting Wandsworth Prison Museum which has photos of Derek Bentley as well as the confirmation of execution notices. We also see photos of the gallows that were at the prison.
I also share photos from the National Archives from his case & prosecution.
This is a haunting story of a young man caught in the wrong place at the wrong time — and a legal system that failed him.
