▶ UNUSUAL SNOWFALL IN NORTHERN GERMANY
Starting in late Autumn, in the end of November, stretching across the first weeks of Winter in early December, Northern Germany recieved fairly high amounts of snowfall in many consecutive days. While this is unusual in itself, having a snow cover even in the city centers of towns and cities across Northern Germany was something you would not expect to happen every year.
During this exceptional winter start, Kiel measured a snow cover of 18 cm, while other stations in Northern Germany measured close to 30 cm. From the third week of December, temperatures began to rise above zero again and these days, the snow is fully melted again, sadly.

▶ KIEL
Kiel, the capital and largest city of the state of Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany, is situated on the shores of the Baltic Sea. Its coastal location and proximity to the Kiel Fjord have played a pivotal role in shaping its maritime identity and historical significance.
The city's roots trace back to its prominence as a member of the Hanseatic League, a medieval trading alliance that contributed to its economic and cultural development. Kiel's maritime legacy was further solidified with the completion of the Kiel Canal in 1895. This artificial waterway connects the North Sea to the Baltic Sea, making Kiel a crucial maritime and naval hub.
Kiel's architectural landscape is a blend of historic and modern structures. Notable landmarks dot the city, reflecting its rich history. The Kiel City Hall stands as a symbol of civic pride, while the Opera House and St. Nicholas' Church add a touch of culture to the cityscape.
