This video discusses model turned popstar KATSEYE Manon going viral for her braids during her group’s recent comeback for their single Gnarly. Manon is the mixed Black member of global girl group KATSEYE, with the Swiss-Ghanaian being the first half African singer to debut under a Korean entertainment company. Manon had “Gnarly” braided into her cornrows during music promotions for their new song, and the iconic look went viral on social media platforms like TikTok and Twitter. Manon explained on Weverse live that the braids were her personal style choice. She also explained the human hair extensions used for her braids during performances and how that works with the choreography. Black fans have been impressed with her hairography, as Manon has continued to embrace her culture with natural hairstyles like braids and locs since pre-debut. Manon also addressed the racist comments she has been receiving ever since she was a trainee, along with her fashion styling of West African waistbeads. Despite being based in the United States, KATSEYE has been promoting in South Korea amongst K-Pop idols like boyband member BOYNEXTDOOR Jaehyun due to being owned by Geffen and HYBE, a Korean entertainment conglomerate- home to KPop groups such as NewJeans, ILLIT, LE SSERAFIM, TWS, and TXT. Formed through the survival show “The Debut: Dream Academy” and popularized through Netflix documentary series “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE”, KATSEYE became the first American girl group to chart on Billboard Hot 100 since Fifth Harmony (Normani, Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane) with their newest hit track Gnarly. KATSEYE Gabriela is the new single from their comeback EP “BEAUTIFUL CHAOS” featuring songs such as Gameboy, MIA, and Mean Girls.
