The photos in my work, in some instances, correspond to the events loosely, in some (whenever possible) - represent the actual events, although I sometimes use some photos strictly for the purpose of visual narration. In general, this time I stayed away from Hackenschmidt's early photos. Now he is a professional wrestler, not a weightlifter, his body transforms for the needs of his sport over time. Here's his story!
This is my translation of the book 'Hackenschmidt' by Estonian author Olaf Langsepp. The book has a few inaccuracies (it was written in Tallin, 1968), but overall, is a very good read (I decided to translate it the way it was written, although I sometimes share my own thoughts in the form of subtitles). In fact, it is the only Hackenschmidt's biography known to then Soviet people (aside from Hackenschmidt's own account in "The Way to Live", it has a Russian edition, but again, his book never had a wide circulation in the Soviet Union and his account is quite succinct), accordingly, Langsepp's book has served as the main source for a few generations of Russian and Estonian speakers interested in the topic and thus provides its own perspective.
