This video is the second in a series of videos that explain simple bag drills, that use Tai Chi principles to train jin (power) expression and development. This video is focused on the straight punch, which is one of the simplest ways to train Fa Jin (explosive power).
The first video in this series can be found here: • (1/21) Tai Chi Bag Drills: Intro /(Taijiq...
In any Chinese martial art there are specific Jins, or types of power manifestations, that are utilized. Tai Chi majors in Jins such as "Listening Jin" "Sticking Jin" "Warding-off Jin" "Fa Jin" (Explosive power) and many others. Most of these Jins are difficult to practice without a partner, but some of them can be trained, at least to some extent, on a hanging bag. The Jin that is probably easiest to practice on a punching bag is Fa Jin and most of these videos focus on Fa Jin expression through various parts of the body (like the fists, elbows, shoulders, hips, etc.), but there are a few other Jins shown as well. Often Fa Jin is trained without the aid of a bag, which is a good way to develop the mechanics, but I feel it is crucially important to train those skills on something solid. Bag training will help you gain an understanding of the vast difference between hitting air and hitting some thing.
It is my hope that with these videos you will find new training ideas for the times you are training alone and I hope they help you take your Tai Chi Jin training to another level. Enjoy. :)
