As recording technology continues to advance, more options are available for independent songwriters than ever before, and at lower and lower prices. Home recording is an increasingly attractive alternative to shelling out thousands of dollars to record in a big professional studio.

Even though Unmute Your Muse focuses on teaching Songwriting skills, we thought it would be worthwhile to spend a little time looking at Home Recording, specifically from a songwriter’s point of view. So we’re doing a little mini-series called, go figure, Home Recording for Songwriters.

In this first video, we’ll take a look back at how recording technology has improved over the years and how at every step of the way, songwriters have used that technology to their advantage. Our songwriting forebearers used technology as a source of freedom and independence as well as a powerful tool for getting their songs into the ears of more and more people all over the world.
