Ya’at’eeh! Aaron Tsosie here, the person behind the camera!
I thought my Pocket Camera could connect to my laptop without needing a capture card for livestreaming… turns out my memory was wrong 😅 My laptop wouldn’t recognize the camera, so I switched gears and streamed on TikTok instead. The stream worked, but TikTok didn’t push it to my 40K followers because it was through my laptop 😭 So this video was filmed vertically instead of my usual horizontal YouTube setup.
I also meant to lift my camera 8ft into the air for a top-down shot of the parade, but I forgot my cable at home. Because of that, some floats may look a little darker than usual — totally my fault!
📍 About the Parade:
The Western Navajo Fair Parade kicks off at Edgewater Drive and Warrior Drive, then turns south near the McDonald’s on Main Street in Tuba City, Arizona. It’s one of the longest-standing Navajo parades, full of school floats, pageant royalty, marching bands, and community organizations — all celebrating Navajo pride and the fair spirit!
From experience, I’ve learned it’s always best to film near the start of the parade, where everyone’s energy is high and smiles are fresh. A few miles down the line, the marchers start feeling the sun 😅
🎥 Behind the Scenes:
My good friend Aislynn Arnold was part of the parade, and her brother James offered to drop me off so I could film at the starting point. My plan was to walk back to the pow wow after the parade — a solid 40-minute trek — and somehow, I made it just in time for grand entry!
🚗 Pro Tip for Future Parades:
If you’re attending the Eastern, Western, you can drive to the parade and drive back to the pow wow with no deadly traffic. Northern, or main Navajo Nation Fair — park at the pow wow and walk to the parade route. It saves you from getting stuck in the post-parade traffic jam and ensures you make it back in time for grand entry!
