This is how I made a bioactive enclosure for a baby captive bred Vietnamese Black Breasted Leaf Turtle. This incredible endangered turtle is very special to me. I wanted to create a habitat that mimics it’s natural environment.
I used an Exo Terra Wide Low 24x18x12” terrarium.
Plant List:
Golden Pothos
Peperomia Rubber Plant
Red Chinese Evergreen
Lighting:
Arcadia 8w Shade Dweller T5 UVB
No heating was used. These are forest floor dwelling species that thrive between 68-78F.
Drainage Layer is a mix of pumice and horticultural charcoal.
Bioactive Substrate Mix: Repti Soil (peat, carbon, sand), orchid bark, cypress mulch, crushed leaf litter, worm castings, spagnum moss, coco husk, coco fiber (do not over use coco fiber).
