The European Poet of Freedom is a literary award, poetry festival and publishing series presenting the volumes of authors shortlisted for the given edition of the competition. The EPF is organised every two years.
The 8th edition of the European Poet of Freedom Festival took place in Gdańsk between 17 and 20 April 2024. The programme was conceived by Magdalena Kicińska and Małgorzata Lebda.
The 2024 “European Poet of Freedom” Gdańsk Literary Award goes to Croatian poet Monika Herceg and her translator Aleksandra Wojtaszek.
The award was designed to promote high-quality poetry that addresses one of the most important themes of the contemporary world: freedom. It is funded by the City of Gdańsk. The Festival and Award are organised by the City Culture Institute, which also publishes the shortlisted volumes.
