How EU-funded research helps tackle pollution and protect our health

The number of evidence-based publications pointing out environmental pollution conditions human health has considerably increased I the last few years. In this opening talk, the Project Officer Rita Araujo provided some insights about EU-funded research policies aiming to reduce the impact of pollution on human health, highlighting how important and powerful is EU-funded research to drive policy building and implementation in Europe. Ms. Araujo showed a brief overview of the funded research evolution over the last research and innovation working programmes (H2020 and HEU), with a focus on the topics dedicated to health, climate and environment. Finally, the relevance of joint efforts from different initiatives and projects is called to attention in order to optimize efforts and resources as well as to face challenges collaboratively.

ExpoHealthNet is a collaborative cluster focused on the research and study of the effect of environmental stressors in non-communicable diseases, addressing key factors such as air, noise, and light pollution, as well as hazardous waste exposure.
An ExpoHealthNet cluster Kick-off meeting was held in Barcelona on September 25th, 2025, bringing together experts and stakeholders to discuss innovative approaches to understanding and mitigating the health impacts of environmental pollution.
