✅ JUST GOT YOUR WORK PERMIT? HERE’S WHAT TO DO NEXT (ALBERTA EDITION 🇨🇦)
Welcome to Canada! If you’ve recently received your work permit and you’re settling in Alberta, here are the important next steps you need to take to get started with life here:
📌 1. Get Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Your SIN is essential for working legally and accessing government benefits. You can apply for it online or in person at any Service Canada office—just bring your work permit and passport.
📌 2. Apply for an Alberta Health Care Card
Healthcare in Alberta is publicly funded, but you need to register for it! Head to any Alberta registry office or apply online. You’ll need your work permit, passport, and proof of address.
📌 3. Open a Canadian Bank Account
Choose a bank that suits your needs (TD, RBC, Scotiabank, etc.). Most banks offer newcomer packages. Bring your work permit, passport, and proof of address.
📌 4. Get Your Alberta ID or Class 7 Learner’s Licence
If you don’t drive, you can get an Alberta ID card for proof of identity. If you plan to drive, apply for a Class 7 Learner’s Licence. Visit a registry office with your documents and take a knowledge test to get started.
🎯 These steps will help you settle smoothly and start building your life in Alberta.
