Guillows nitro UMX Retro MOD Advanced Tips & Tricks - Engines & Fuel Tanks pt1

Hello everyone! Here's a Sunday shout-out to all my fellow RC umx pilots flying this weekend, or trying to get off the ground using an external fuel tank.

This video is a simple, quick overview of how a model airplane engine & external fuel tank are properly oriented and mounted. I also cover two important notes - the free gravity flow of fuel and using the fill & overfill/ vent5 lines as vent extensions for pressurization.

Pressurization is ideal and recommended by the Cox Tee Dee .020 engine manual, and I set the engine & tank up as described. The fuel tank has a small printed instruction set on the packaging explaining how to set up pressurization, but shows no pictures or illustrations, so I can understand why these details are often missed.

Also in this video, I show off one of my latest birds - the Guillow's Aeronca Champion ver 2.0, which is a re-do of a previous experimental project I did last year using the same kit. I haven't had a chance to fly this one yet, because I want to upgrade the umx receiver package with a new integrated rotary servo package called the bRICK+ and has two 1.9g umx micro servos oriented in the same position and spots as the linear servo boards. Improvements and upgrades that were not mentioned in the video include a new LG setup using a hardwood sandwiched wire gear parts pack from the E-Flite umx Timber X (just the wire & plastic fairings), trimmed the fairings down to the same shape as the Champion's kit ones, and laminated them up nicely to preserve that all-wooden look. The fuel tank is a common Perfect brand Wedgetank that holds 1/2oz and is mounted as close as possible to the model's CG to keep the balance proper while the tank empties during flight. The Champ, when it was completely finished and checked for the total flying weight, everything, 1S lipo and full tank equaled 150 grams, and that was my average from three weight tests.
