NPP Government Backs Down After Public Backlash Over LGBTQ+ Tourism and Penal Code Amendments
The NPP government's recent amendments to the Penal Code and the letter issued by the Tourism Development Bureau Chairman—encouraging the promotion of LGBTQ+ tourism—have sparked widespread criticism from the public.
Now, Anura Kumara Dissanayake claims that these actions do not reflect their official policy and that they are ready to revise the proposed amendments to the Penal Code.
This clearly shows that these so-called leaders lack the backbone to stand by their own policies. They attempted to push these changes quietly, but we exposed the truth and raised public awareness. Facing public pressure, the government now blames “officials” for the move.
How pathetic.
We will stand firm against any legislation that aims to destroy our society—with the strength and support of our people.
And what cannot be corrected now, we will correct in the next government.
