To honor the 250th year of Schnecks in America, descendants of the immigrant Adam Schneck (1718-1794) visited Germany in July 1999 to explore the region of their ancestors. Adam Schneck was a 1749 immigrant to Pennsylvania from Baden-Württemberg. After he landed at the port of Philadelphia, Adam headed north and acquired 271 acres in what is now the village of Schnecksville in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Many of Adam's descendants still live in the area. Adam was Lutheran, and he was part of the cultural group known as the Pennsylvania Dutch.
Join this lively, fun group of Schnecks as they travel by bus through the Rhineland-Palatinate, the Alsace region of France, Baden-Württemberg, and Switzerland. Along the way, they stopped at three UNESCO Heritage Sites: the Porta Nigra gate in Trier (Roman ruin); the Speyer Cathedral, built in 1030; and the medieval Maulbronn Monestary. Other highlights include a stop in the Moselle Valley wine region, a drive through farming villages in the Palatinate, riding to the top of the Jungfrau in the Alps, and touring the Black Forest region. While the Schnecks didn't find the birthplace of their ancestor, they did come across a Schneck Bakery and the village of Schneckenhausen!
