A close up of the wear and tear on the Birch bark wrap over a period of 2 years.

Birch is a delicate substance, as thin as paper and life for a bow in a field archery course can be rough. Birch can also dry out and flake off if not cared for.

Regular care with oil (olive in my case although Camelia is also recommended) and neutral shoe polish keep the birch moisturised and supple.

At some point in the future 2-5 years, I hope, I might need to remove the bark and wrap it again. Perhaps fish or snake leather.
