I cannot begin to imagine what the students in this case are going through and it is very heartbreaking and exhuasting. In this video I spoke about the whole issue surrounding the school (IEU- International European University) that was shut down in Malta as well as what could be a potential solution for the affect6ed student.
Good luck!

Website to check for accredited schools: mfhea.mt

⚖️ What Can Be Done?
Here are possible steps for affected students:
1. Contact MFHEA (Malta Further & Higher Education Authority)
File a formal complaint.
Ask if there is a transfer pathway to another accredited Maltese university/institution.

2. Engage the Office of the Ombudsman (Education Division)
The Ombudsman in Malta investigates cases of unfair treatment in education.
Students can request an independent review of how this shutdown is being handled.

3. Seek Legal Advice in Malta
A Maltese lawyer specializing in education/immigration can challenge the no-refund issue and possibly negotiate more time to remain.
Some NGOs offer free legal clinics for migrants/students (e.g., aditus foundation, Jesuit Refugee Service Malta).
4. Appeal for Visa/Permit Extensions
Students could petition Identity Malta (the immigration authority) for a humanitarian extension (especially if mid-semester).
If linked to an EU initiative (since Ukraine is in crisis), students may have some protection.
5. Refund Claims
If payments were made to the school, students can pursue:
Civil legal action in Malta (if the institution had a registered legal presence there).
EU consumer protection rules, since Malta is in the EU and educational services fall under “cross-border services.”

Practical Options for Students
Transfer to another university in Malta: Some accredited institutions (like University of Malta or MCAST) may accept transfers, depending on the program.
Relocate to another EU country: Students may be able to transfer credits elsewhere in the EU, if their coursework was accredited.
Petition as a student group: Instead of individuals acting alone, students could form a group and pressure Maltese authorities collectively (this often gets more attention).
