The Other Virus | Documentary (Teaser)

The pandemic has revealed how interconnected we all are and how fragile we are if governments and public health authorities fail to coordinate their efforts to conquer such threats. We are interviewing people from a diverse array of fields to try to draw a comprehensive picture of what has been happening globally with the virus and what the world will look like when the crisis comes to some kind of conclusion – ideally eradication with a vaccine. We are also introducing the idea of humans as the ‘other virus’, as essentially disrupting the planet through their behavior and causing pandemics such as COVID-19.

In the film, we are turning a thoughtful lens on politics, economics, psychology, sociology, and even culture. We are particularly emphasizing how humans are the “other virus”: how our selfishness, greed, and individualism have increased the possibility of future pandemics like COVID-19.

“The main reason that it’s happened is our absolute disrespect of nature and animals. Cutting down their forests, invading the animals homes, killing them, eating them, butchering them, driving them out so they have to raid crops to find food. All this creates these conditions where a virus can jump into a human”.

Jane Goodall, primatologist and one of the most important conservationists in history, is pessimistic about human action and its disrespect for ecosystems and the animal world.

The film looks at how, through our relentless pursuit of wealth and development, we have essentially disrespected the planet and created a disequilibrium within the environment and wildlife habitats.
