Understanding the Reverse Round Pen and Clicker Training

May 10, 2020. Part one - a quick sesson today to answer a few questions about how and why I'm using this Reverse Round Pen. Some people are stumbling on my Vlog of Lacey's training and asking questions via my website http://radhooftrimming.com and here on YouTube. Lacey was orphaned at 3 months old , way too young to be without her mother. She was picked up by one of the herd managers on the warm springs reservation in Oregon, bought back to health and sold at almost a year old .
That owner sold her to me last year ( Lacey was 2) the reason was she didn't have time to continue her training. I was looking for a training project and the rest is history. Only thing was, i like to do positive reinforcement aka Clicker training and though she quickly caught on to touching targets. She was lacking in most every kind of manner around food rewards . Last year her training involved alot of negative reinforcement to get essential care done and positive reinforcement using protected contact to teach manners around food. I also used counter conditioning for hoof trimming.
Unfortunately about a month after getting her last year i hurt my foot so real training was put on hold. The only training she had was essential husbandry skills her first year. Now i started more of her training and decided to do a vlog to document it.
Today it's hot out , one of the first hot days of the year so i didn't ask for anything faster than a walk . We ended early when the distractions were too much . Thanks for watching and look for the part 2 where i explain more about these training methods I'm using 🤠🐎
