Here's a tour of our truck that we used in order to drive 11,000 kilometers across Africa.
The model is a Toyota Hilux 4x4 diesel engine.

We decided to rent a vehicle. This is in part because it's a bureaucratic nightmare to buy or sell a vehicle in Africa as a non-citizen. It's also likely cheaper to rent - getting a use vehicle is still expensive, and will inevitably need outfitting and repairs, likely when you're in some remote place, it's raining, and you're out of food.
Shipping your vehicle to Africa is an option, but it cost's $5,000-10,000USD each way, plus thousands more in customs fees.
And don't forget the massive amounts of paperwork you need to cross African borders with your vehicle. Can you really get insurance, police certificates, previous owner records, etc? Good luck! We strongly recommend renting.
