Hello again…. This video is another in the series on the subject of upgrading old locomotives, and making them more usable on your layout, more fun to run and operate plus giving them a new lease of life.
This is a relatively straight forward upgrade, due to the old simple design of the 45yr old Lima loco, and absence of modern electronics.
I haven’t fitted any ‘Stay Alive’ capacitors at this stage, in order to keep things very simple, but will be fitting such things in future videos.
The main skill required is soldering, but with a little practice even a novice can reach the skill level required quite quickly. There are plenty of videos on YouTube about the subject.
This loco is like many others from the bottom draw of countless model railway enthusiasts. Typically bought many years ago by long time hobbyists, or purchased second or third hand more recently, maybe by people returning to the hobby after years in the wilderness, or newcomers to the hobby trying to save money.
As time goes on the newer more detailed and technically advance kit takes priority, and the older stock gets relegated to bottom drawers or the back of cupboards.
In my case my older and more basic equipment ended up in a couple of rarely opened storage boxes.
So I decided to embark on some upgrade fun to make these locos more usable and enjoyable.
One of the more visually appealing additions to any loco is lights, in this case directional lights.
I’m using 12 volt LED’s to make the installation simpler..
So follow me in this video and see what you think of the results…. I personally am really pleased with the results.
Especially as it cost less than £5 all in……
As we say in Liverpool……. Result !
Regards…. Steve 👍👍👍
