July was one of the clearest months in a long time for underwater viewing. With the construction of the pier now underway, we’ve seen an intriguing shift in the scene. The removal of the pier's flooring has eliminated the shadows that once provided refuge for bait fish, which typically crowded the area this time of year. This change has led to clearer and more varied views.
Among the highlights, Sandra Jules—which I silently dubbed “Eagle Eye” for her knack for discovering top-notch footage—discovered a new find: the Brown Chromis, a member of the Chromis/Damselfish family. The month was also bustling with action, including finding Waldo (can you spot it in the video), featuring multiple sightings of an eagle ray, a territorial male sergeant major fiercely defending its space, a moody barracuda, and a porcupine fish with a full mouth.
With so much excitement and diverse marine activity, titling the collection was no easy feat. The chosen title, “Glide, Chase, Strike, Bite, Repeat,” seemed to capture the essence of the month's dynamic and repetitive scenes.
