Basic instructions:

☆ Hipster Whale (1:42)
Use any character and jump on him when you see him swim by in a river.

☆ Gifty (2:58)
Use the Festive Chicken and find the Christmas Tree. Just keep searching - these fields appear randomly and you'll find him eventually.

☆ Crab (4:44)
Use any character and move from side to side a lot, say about 50 times, like a crab. And get a score over 40.

☆ Drop Bear (5:44)
Use an Australian animal and try to find him. Move close and he'll DROP on you - it'll kill you but it will unlock him.

☆ Cai Shen (7:09)
Use the Fortune Chicken or XI and collect the red envelopes - you need 20 in total over any number of goes

Game developers - get a great score with their favourite character:

Use the Mallard and get a "Great Score"

☆ Ben Weatherall (11:27)
Use the Dark Lord and get a "Great Score"

☆ Matt Hall (12:53)
Use the Lucky Cat and get a "Great Score"

A "Great Score" is one close to or greater than your current High Score. Close to means within about 85%, therefore if your high score is 200, you need to get over 170. So the better you are at the game the harder they are to unlock!
