I’m excited to share a glimpse into the lives of the Chinook Salmon I serendipitously discovered while flying my drone in one of my favorite spots—Bush Bay (fondly known as Narnia)—in the Les Cheneaux Islands. This special place has been part of my summers since childhood, a sanctuary where nature always has a story to tell. Being out in nature has a way of grounding us, of reminding us how much life there is to appreciate. And when we take the time to truly observe and immerse ourselves, nature always seems to offer a little gift in return—just as it did for me with this incredible encounter. Through this short film, I hope to highlight the resilience and beauty of these salmon as they complete their incredible journey home.
Each fall in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Chinook salmon fight their way back to the streams where their lives began to spawn and end their journey. At Port Dolomite, a limestone quarry near Cedarville, their journey plays out against a backdrop of industry and nature. This is a story of determination, renewal, and the quiet beauty of a life cycle coming full circle.
