Using the Cricut Maker to make hard to find or discontinued gaskets

In this video I explain my process to cut an automotive gasket out of gasket material you can find at any parts store. I had traditionally cut these by hand with scissors or a razor blade and the result was always horrible. I decided to try and use some of the skills used before on this YouTube channel to make a gasket that was difficult to source in time to go fishing! I made the gasket with Fusion 360 modeling using an attached canvas. The canvas was a picture I took of the gasket area and then one measurement and let the program do all the math. By setting the attached canvas to a specific measurement I was able to 2D sketch the gasket at life scale. I then exported the DXF file of the fusion 360 sketch and used a free drawing program called Inkscape to convert the DXF file into SVG. The Cricut Design Space seems to play nice with SVG files better than DXF files, at least from fusion 360. This allowed me to then import the SVG file into design space. When the file imported into design space I then scaled it uniformly to fit the actual X axis dimensions from the Fusion 360 sketch. This made a perfect gasket that the cricut would cut out. I only needed to do one pass of the cricut deep cut blade on the gasket material and the results are much better than anything I could do by hand.

I could have sourced this gasket from somewhere on the internet I'm sure but they are getting harder and harder to find and I also like the fact that I am learning to make any gasket I need especially if it is discontinued. I think I may be doing this a few more times with equipment that no longer has available parts.
