Sound of Georgia: The Beauty of Polyphonic Folk Music (Part I)

Georgia is a captivating country, and much of its charm comes from its music. Especially the traditional folk music with its polyphonic singing is truly unique and rightfully holds the seal of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.

I fell in love with this music the first time I heard it: harmonious, expressive melodies in this exotic, melodious language. But Georgian folk music is much more than that. It's a rich tapestry woven from centuries of cultural influences and a deep connection to the country's history, landscape, and way of life.

During my 6-month journey through Georgia, I had the special opportunity to record a performance by the folk music ensemble "Kalta" from Kazbegi. And I couldn't have asked for a better backdrop than the massive mountain ranges of the Greater Caucasus.
