English Channel Relay Swim 2021

At the end of 2020, with the Covid pandemic causing many to reevaluate their lives, a relay team was assembled by Jersey based swim company Swim Smart to take on the challenge of the English Channel.

The team consisted of 6 individuals - 3 women and 3 men - some with competitive swimming pool experience in their younger years but none with any open water swimming expertise.

Over the course of the next 8 months the team trained in the cold winter seas around the Jersey coast and prepared for the challenge ahead.

As well as taking on the physical and mental battle with the English Channel, the team also committed to raising a minimum of £4,500.00 for the JSPCA (Jersey Animal Shelter) - with the Just Giving page link as follows:

This little edit (shot on the humble iPhone) recalls the journey of their attempt to swim from Shakespeare Beach in Dover UK to Wissant, Pas-de-Calais, France.
