-- PRESENTATION: TAMIYA RYŪ IAIJUTSU --
Tamiya Ryū was founded about 400 years ago, during the Tenshō era (1573-1591), by Tamiya Heibee Narimasa, and was transmitted first within the Kishū Clan, a branch of the Tokugawa family. The school had three branches at the time: Kotamiya, Kishū Tamiya et Shintamiya. Kotamiya disappeared at the 5th generation and was absorbed by Kishū Tamiya, which became the official branch.
This Kishū Tamiya branch was then transmitted and perfected within the Saijō Clan in Iyo, in Aichi Prefecture. In fact, the Saijō Clan was a branch of the Kishū family.
At the end of the 18th century, a member of the Tsumaki family moved to Saijō to serve the Daimyō of the Kishū Clan. In 1797, his son Tsumaki Junjiro Mototsugu inherited the title of Sōke of Kishū Tamiya Ryū, and the head of the school has been passed on through generations in that family since then.
The school’s basics are covered by the Kata, which consists in two series: the ""Omote no Maki"" (11 volumes) and the ""Koran no Maki"" (14 volumes).
