Tourbillon 1 - A Totally New In-House Caliber

We are excited to provide a glimpse to the newly redesigned movement for the Tourbillon 1 watch.

Advanced Movement Engineering

Leaning on our expertise as engineers proficient in silicon escapement technologies and the mathematics required for unique geometries Tourbillon 1 will exceed a four (4) day power reserve or approx. one-hundred (100) hours of power reserve out of a single barrel construction. A beat rate of 3.5Hz or 25,200 beats per hour is utilized as it is standard throughout all of Horage’s movements. This is a signifiant improvement over the initial seventy-two hours sourced from the original supplier. Through our proven and stable industrial level movement K1, we have been able to utilize key components from both K1 and their latest K2 micro-rotor caliber such as hand setting mechanism, hand friction and escapement technologies. We further demonstrates our engineering teams level of expertise by developing a completely new gear train and geometries from scratch. Chronometer certification is the benchmark for Swiss movement precision and a core value of the Horage engineers. Therefore we have ensured all our movements are adjusted to chronometer level accuracy in-house. However for those who would like to have an official certification from COSC for their Tourbillon 1 watch, we have made chronometer certification an upgradable option.

The Flying Tourbillon Cage

Thinner, lighter and ridiculously efficient was the challenge set forth by the engineers for K-TOU’s, flying tourbillon cage. Adding fuel to our self induced fire, K-TOU would be the first tourbillon cage to come out of our engineering firm THE+. The cage is comprised of forty-three (43) pieces and weighs in at just 0.29 grams. The bearing is fixed to the main plate and the cage nestles over it. At .08 grams the bearing is very light. At 4.3mm the cages ultra low profile stretches out to 11.85mm to easily catch ones eye. The extremely lightweight and thin profile of K-TOU competes directly with the masters of Swiss tourbillon development.

With thinner and lighter addressed our secret sauce is a deep understanding of escapement technologies. For K-TOU we utilized a 20.3 silicon escapement of our own geometry. By utilizing advanced simulation methods we can increase efficiency by upwards of 45% over traditional escapements of the past.

Keeping the momentum going is the decision to work with a ball bearing instead of the dated pinion and stone construction. The bearing reduces the flying tourbillons centre of gravity and provides the tourbillon with unprecedented shock resistance, thus making it a truly everyday wear.

The cage is not only ultra-efficient and precise, but visually alternates between brushed and polished surfaces respectively. A standout design attribute not presented in the sample, but in the video that shows the final production model has the addition of a seconds indicator that is filled with Swiss Super-LumiNova for subdued light legibility.
