The South African Post Office (SAPO) continues to be in a deepening dire financial state and the public entity has been making losses with a reported R2.3 billion loss in revenue for 2021. SAPO incurred a sum of R198 million in fruitless and wasteful expenditure for the year 2019/2020 financial year. Last year SAPO asked for a bailout of R8 billion but the National Treasury declined. Department of Communication and Digital Technologies Deputy Minister Philemon Mapulane joins us virtually to talk about the challenges faced by the Post Office and whether there is any hope of rescuing SAPO.
