Diana Ross surprised fans at her Las Vegas show by performing songs she rarely sings like this gorgeous ballad from her RCA years, 'Missing You'. On this particular night she sang this song like I've rarely heard it before with heartfelt passion and emotion. It was as if she was reliving the song and knowing her own mortality with the recent death of Aretha Franklin just a month earlier. She said it was written for Marvin Gaye but also dedicated to Michael Jackson, both close friends who had passed away. It seemed like she was conjuring up thoughts of Florence, her Mom, Arne, people in her life who has passed, in general. Whatever the reason, she evoked enough passion to bring this song home with everyone in the audience who has lost loved ones. This was the night she also did a beautiful rendition of "The Best Years of My Life" after doing an emotional Q&A (which I had also posted on YouTube). She connected with her fans this night on an emotional level she rarely displays in public. There's a reason so many people love this legendary figure.
