Located on an island within the river Mahanadi in Gopinathpur village of Badamba block in Cuttack district in Odisha, the Singhanath Temple is a hindu religious shrine.
Situated in the middle of the Mahanadi river, this ancient temple stands out as one of Odisha’s most fascinating yet lesser-known heritage spots. It is a breathtaking blend of mythology, architecture, and natural beauty.
Built in the 9th century during the Bhumikara dynasty, the temple is constructed in Triratha style, showcasing Odisha’s unique architectural identity. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity of the place.
According to local legends, during their exile, Lord Ram, Mata Sita, and Lakshman stayed in this region. During their time here, they established three Shivlings in a triangular formation on three separate hills, Singhanath Temple, Ramanath Temple and Baidyanath Temple . Among these, the Singhanath Temple is believed to be the oldest and most sacred.
