Our Freedom

Freedom 25: Poetic Placards & Billboards — Trinity’s contribution to the national Our Freedom: Then & Now programme, led by Future Arts Centres.

August-November 2025, people from across Bristol, including local residents, refugee and asylum-seeking communities, and Caribbean Elders, have come together to explore what freedom means today. Through creative writing with Bristol City Poet Sukina Noor and Heritage Curator Dr Edson Burton, followed by printmaking sessions with artist Sonja Burniston, participants shared memories, hopes and personal reflections.

Their work has been displayed in Trinity’s Graffiti Room, alongside a large-scale Billboard Art installation in Old Market Community Garden November-December 2025, created with Build Hollywood and inspired directly by participants’ words.

The project brought together artists, community participants, partners and supporters in celebration of freedom in Great Britain as a collaborative journey and of Bristol’s many voices speaking up for freedom of expression, identity and belonging.
