This is the only local stopping service for stations on the ECML between Drem and Edinburgh although ScotRail services to Dunbar stop at Musselburgh but not any other stations on this route. Mnay other operators operate services non stop out of Edinburgh on this route but operate non stop to either Dunbar, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnmouth, Morpeth or Newcastle with these services being operated by LNER, Cross Country, TransPennine Express and Lumo.
The rolling stock used on ScotRail services on this route is a mix of class 385 and 380 Desiro EMU trains with this journey being filmed on a class 385. The class 385 operate as either 3 or 6 carriage services as 4 carriage first class fitted units only operate on the ScotRail express Edinburgh to Glasgow services. The class 380 operate as either 3, 4 or 6 carriages.
This route is fully electrified throughout using overhead AC electrification. This route is double track between Edinburgh Waverley and Drem and single track between Drem and North Berwick.
