Donald McGinnis (1917-2016) was on the Ohio State University from 1941-1979 (minus Navy service in WW II). He taught woodwind instruments and became the director of Bands during that time. He led outstanding concert bands and taught clarinet students such as Richard Stoltzman.
McGinnis served at various times as principal clarinetist, principal flutist and assistant conductor of the Columbus Philharmonic and other orchestras.
This record, from the late 1960s, shows McGinnis to be a fundamentally sound performer. For these more advanced pieces he is playing a Selmer Series 10 clarinet. His well preserved fundamentals show why he was a successful ensemble leader.
