Many species of the pipevine host plant are toxic. The orange dots on their hindwings are a signal to predators not to eat them.
Females have white spots
Adults feed on high-value native species such as Phlox, Ironweed, Buttonbush, Asters, Thistles, and lupines. They love annual petunias and lantana.
