Step into 17th-century New York with an AI reconstruction inspired by colonial maps, traveler accounts, and early Dutch and English city plans. Using records from the Dutch West India Company, English surveyors, and contemporary sketches, this visualisation interprets the settlement’s shift from New Amsterdam to New York while staying true to its materials and street patterns.
During this century, the town changed quickly: timber houses lined Pearl Street, Fort Amsterdam guarded the harbor, and the defensive Wall—later Wall Street—marked its edge. Even after the 1664 English takeover, Dutch architecture and customs remained visible.
Though imperfect, early maps and drawings reveal a frontier port of muddy streets, active docks, and a mix of Dutch, English, African, and Native residents. This reconstruction aims to reflect that world as New York stood on the threshold of becoming a major Atlantic city.
