It was our first trip to Irvine Lake since trout season opened. Since it was the day after the Derby, the lake was packed with fishermen. We didn't arrive early enough to claim a good spot, so we decided to go in the afternoon-just two hours before closing. We managed to catch one trout, while the anglers who had been there since morning were landing plenty, and they were good-sized fish. Our friends even hooked a double-digit trout but unfortunately lost it. Even though our time there was short, we still enjoyed catching a trout and watching others reel in their big ones.
