Which dog personality type is right for you? Personality types in puppies.
There are 6 personality types in dogs and they range from most dominant to most submissive. The 6 personalities are the bully, the rebel, the independent thinker, eager to please, the relaxed type and the timid type. The bully type plays rough, climbs walls, walks all over siblings, is fearless, intelligent, and stubborn. Not the best for owners who are rarely home and those with young kids. They will need a lot of socialization, training, interaction, physical and mental stimulation. The rebel is adventurous, playful, charming, extroverted, assertive (but not aggressive). They are best with active people and those with older children or teens. The independent thinker is very social, fun-loving, can be left alone, blend in very well, and the go with the flow of things whether is a chill day indoors or a hike in the mountains. They are best for stable homes and homes with no kids or with older adults. The eager to please puppy are the ones that are super excited to see you or even excited at the idea of seeing you. They hate to be left alone but with firm training and positive reinforcement they are amazing family pets. The relaxed puppy is not as energetic as the other types but they are well balanced and do well with all types of owners or homes. Lastly, the timid type is shy, submissive and sweet. They will need a lot of socialization to grow up into a confident dog. Also the future will need to have a lot of patience. They are best for owners that are single and no kids. A quick test to determine which puppy to choose is hold the puppy up with your hands and see how they react. Calm is a well socialized puppy, if they wiggle a bit but they stop and look at you is also good. Do a quick health check, their eyes and nose, healthy weight, shiny coat, healthy teeth and gums, no signs of infections, normal breathing, and normal run and walk.
