Bachmann - Baldwin Class 10-12-D 4-6-0T - Review

A Review of the all new Bachmann Narrow Gauge - 009 Scale - 391-025 - Baldwin Class 10-12-D 4-6-0T, in Weathered WDLR Black Livery.
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, the Baldwin Class 10-12-D was the principal military locomotive for the British War Department Light Railway during the First World War. 495 where constructed between 1916 and 1917, for us on the WDLR Network on the Western Front, with some also reaching other theatres of war, outside Europe.
After WW1, many of the locomotives were sold off to Private Owners and Narrow Gauge railways around the world. Railways in the UK which receive Baldwins, included the Walsh Highland Railway and Glyn Valley Tramway. The Ashover Light Railway built up a fleet of 6 locomotives, which provided most of the motive power on it’s network.
Four locomotives have been preserved in the UK, including WDLR 778, which is preserved on the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway, Bedfordshire.
Bachmann have done a superb job in capturing the overall look of these iconic Narrow Gauge Locomotives. The model throughout features a high level of detail, including extensively detailed cab interior, directional headlamps, as well characteristic daylight under the boiler, as well as wealth of separately fitted parts, such as pipe work and turned brass whistle.
Straight from the box, performance is smooth and quite, thanks to their powerful Coreless Motors.
The Bachmann Baldwin Class 10-12-D certainly are an extremely welcome addition to the ever growing 009 Scale ready to run market, and one, I personally feel, sets a whole new standard for RTR in general.
