Cool Morning From the Attic Overlooking the Coastal City | Gentle Birdsong & Blooming Streets

Morning sunlight, blue sea, even the city seems to bloom.

This morning, I woke up to a very soft sound — like someone whispering to the wind. Turned out, it was the sound of birds singing under the eaves. The bougainvillea outside the window swayed gently, and the sunlight poured across the blanket, golden to the point of aching.

I made a cup of tea and brought it out to the tiny balcony paved with laterite stone. Below, the city was beginning to wake with unhurried footsteps, flower baskets hanging by doorways, and soft laughter mingling with the clink of spoons against porcelain.

I sat there, the rooftop high enough for me to see the deep curve of the distant shoreline. The waves lapped gently, as if touching a part of me that had long stopped hoping for anything clear.

I thought of the one I used to love. But for the first time in many days, I didn’t feel a tightness in my chest. The memory now was just a faint, warm glow — warm enough to remember, distant enough not to hurt.

I don’t know when I’ll return to the city. Perhaps I never will, at least not in the same way. Here, I’ve learned how to sit quietly with myself. No longer trying to be interesting. No longer needing to be loved.

Just a place to breathe — and I’ve found it in this gentle morning, beneath the tender blue sky and the sound of birds falling softly onto the eaves.
