Scammers are stealing property ownership of people's homes and getting away with it.
The homeowner-victim has no idea that they are paying a mortgage on a home they no longer own.
Homeowners need to know how to protect their deeds before it happens.
There are two ways that may protect homeowners that I discuss in this video.
(In layman's terms, not legal-eze)
What to do if you discover that this already happened to you...
If a property deed was illegally transferred, there are several legal avenues (recourses) that can be pursued. Here's a general breakdown:
1. File a Lawsuit to Quiet Title
This is a legal action used to establish ownership of property and remove any "clouds" on the title.
You’ll need to show that the deed transfer was fraudulent or done without proper authorization.
2. Report the Fraud to Authorities
Notify local law enforcement and potentially the FBI if identity theft or forgery is involved.
File a complaint with the district attorney’s office, especially if the fraud is part of a pattern.
3. Contact the County Recorder or Assessor’s Office
Inform them of the fraudulent deed.
They may allow a notice to be placed in the record stating that the deed is disputed.
4. Civil Litigation for Fraud
You may sue the responsible party for damages, including attorney’s fees, lost value, or rent.
This is especially relevant if the property was sold to a third party.
5. File an Affidavit of Fraud
Some jurisdictions allow property owners to file an affidavit with the recorder to contest a recorded deed.

6. Seek a Temporary Restraining Order or Injunction
If a sale or eviction is pending, a court can halt proceedings until the fraud issue is resolved.
7. Title Insurance Claim
If you have title insurance, notify your insurer immediately. They may assist with legal expenses or help reverse the transfer.
