This is Marissa's journey building a reef from scratch! A 32 gallon Fijicube! Including the stands table top, the plumbing, custom designed light backet adapter for this specific tank as well as pipe holders and a aquascape. We spent 3 days setting up and building. We added Fish, Coral & Invertebrates on Day 1! Everything was mixed up and ready to go in buckets in preperation. it did not take long at all after introducing the water to the tank and to clear up.
Tank Dimensions:
Marissa is quite unfamiliar with plumbing and aquascapes, so I walked her through it and gave a hand when requested. I think she did a spectacular job on her first time ever! I Went ahead and designed a few things on CAD software and 3d printed them, I tossed in a few clips of this process. I designed and 3D printed the light bracket vise in order to use the Ecotech Radion XR15 G6 light and bracket on the 32G Fijicube. The overflow box design made the stock light bracket for the radions not work. The white 1/2 Inch and 3/4 Inch Pipe Holder that I designed came into perfect fitment and helped a lot!
The Difficulties we ran into:
1) Purchased a brand new Neptune Systems EB832 Energy Bar from Bulk Reef Supply and straight out of the box it came broken and not working. Contacted BRS immediately and they told us they won't return it, that we need to contact the manufacturer. After contacting the manufacturer, spending over $160 more and a few days later we got a used refurbished working one. We were very upset with this. We had to pay money for a security deposit because they apparently don't trust their customers after giving them full video and picture confirmation the product is faulty on top of an almost $20 shipping fee.
2)BRS recommended and sent the wrong fittings, so we reverted back to our original plan which ate up 8hrs.
3)The Sicce SDC 3.0 Return Pump claims 200-800- GPH with a max head pressure of 12ft. Unfortunately, on the 1/2 Inch return line we ran and the pump at max speed we only can achieve 117 GPH according to the brand-new flow meter, and it does appear to be trickling out. We contacted Bulk Reef Supply again and yet again they tell us they will not except an exchange and pay the price difference for the bigger upgraded version, The Sicce SDC 6.0. Not even a refund or even half the money back. We were also not happy to hear about this and not soon after we had brought this up to our LFS while we were visiting, they would have no problems doing such a thing.
All-in-All we learned some lessons and have decided to make changes and do more research before making special purchases.
Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed the video.
