Nero, Emperor Nero, Nero Redivivus, Roman Empire, Greek World, Roman History.
After Nero’s death in 68 AD, Rome erased his memory and condemned him as a tyrant. In the Greek East, his story did not end. Cities that had honored Nero during his reign continued to remember him as a benefactor and ruler, and rumors soon spread that the emperor was still alive. This video explores why the Greek world responded so differently to Nero, how imperial cult and Hellenistic political tradition shaped his reception, and why the legend of Nero Redivivus refused to disappear.
