Lovatnet is a stunning lake located in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. The lake is situated about 2 kilometers southeast of the village of Loen and 6 kilometers east of the village of Olden1. It lies just southwest of the mountain Skåla and is fed by meltwater from the Jostedalsbreen and Tindefjellbreen glaciers.
Lovatnet covers an area of 10.4 square kilometers and is 11 kilometers long. The lake is known for its beautiful green color, which comes from the glacial meltwater2. The water flows out of the lake through the Loelva river, eventually reaching the Nordfjorden.
The lake has a tragic history, as it was the site of two devastating landslides in 1905 and 1936, which caused massive tsunamis and resulted in significant loss of life and property. Despite this, Lovatnet remains a popular destination for tourists, offering scenic boat trips, hiking opportunities, and a chance to experience the natural beauty of the area.
