Never played Suguri much but I've been playing it a lot lately as to celebrate the recent Steam release. I always thought Sora was a vastly superior game but Suguri is very fun too in it's own way after I figured out how you are supposed to play the game.

Just like with Sora, people who have never played the game will probably have absolutely no idea what is going on.
But in a nutshell you have a dash that lets you fly through beam-based attacks. But you can't dash through ballistic weapons and solid objects, which includes fire, ice and chains.
Dashing lets you cancel attack animations but also increases your heat and the more heat you have the more damage you will take if you get hit. So it's a risk-reward kind of thing, at 300% heat you take like three times as much damage as on 0%.
Killing enemies and grazing things with the dash increases your hyper gauge which is basically a short bomb. You can stack up to three at a time.

The game has like 16 weapons that you can use but you can only equip two at a time and for Arcade mode you can only choose the two to serve you throughout the whole game.
I picked the beam rifle and the spread gun for this run. The beam rifle is an all-around good weapon that does good damage as well as pierce projectiles and the spread gun is an awesome pointblank weapon.

The scoring system features a Dodonpachi like chaining system, you increase the meter by killing enemies, shooting projectiles and by grazing.
Broke some chains here and there quite embarrassingly but the most important chain is the stage 1 chain anyway. It's a bit of a shame you can't full-chain the other stages, I think that would have made the scoring system a lot more interesting.

The end of stage 5 normally has intended slowdown for the missile part but it doesn't show up in replay mode for some reason.

The way Hime's fight works is that you can dash through the red stuff but not the blue.
