You never really know what kind of morning you're going to have when duck hunting a public land spot but after seeing thousands of ducks using this cattail marsh, I knew we had to give it a shot. On the last day of our trip out west, we finally got the wind we needed to hunt an island in the marsh where we could throw a big spread and try to traffic some of these wary mallards, gadwall, and wigeon that had been in the area. Even though we were running a little behind in the morning, we ended up being the first group in the marsh and made the paddle to the spot with our kayaks full of decoys. Another group came in right around sunrise and after running their motor for what seemed like forever, they finally got settled in at the other end of the marsh. The flight started off slow since most the birds had been run out by the motor noise but once the birds started trickling back and the wind picked up we had birds decoying in right and left. It ended up being an awesome morning hunt with 7 different species in the bag and some of Leroy's best retriever work to date. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy!
